RLS and Horse tablets

I am not a great believer in pills or tablets.

They have their uses, and I will take them if absolutely necessary, but even then, I take the minimum dose and take my chances.

One form of pill I avoid like the plague is the supplement.  As far as I am concerned, they are a device to part hypochondriacs from their money and in general do fuck all that a good diet won’t do in the first place.

Recently, I was persuaded against my better judgement to try one of these supplements.  I was given a bottle of magnesium and calcium tablets that were the size of small torpedoes.  Because I like a quiet life, I thought it would be simpler to take them than to chuck them out, so I started taking one a day.

It might be the warmer weather?  It might be a simple case of remission?  Or it might be the tablets, but I can tell you that life has been improving rapidly when it comes to the RLS.

Normally, the RLS would start up in the early afternoon.  It would start off with the mild electric shocks, followed by a feeling of heat.  This would be followed by the twitching and the general major irritations.  All of those have gone. Now I get the mild twitching late in the evening which still builds up to bedtime when I have to take my prescription medication, but the relief during the day is great.  No only that, but I feel a lot more active.

Could it be that supplements actually work?

If so, they are expensive, but worth every cent.

  1. Congrats Richard
I am thrilled to hear it!

In many countries they are trying to put the screws to the natural health industry. And/or become a part of it.

You mention a good diet. The problem is, at least here, food no longer has the nutritional value it should. The soil is depleted therefore the plants also. GM crops, herbicides, pesticides, poor-combo fertilizer, fluoride and contaminants in water. Not to mention the animals we eat being fed, not grass, but corn, soy, hormones, antibiotics. Plus the junk food, and prescription medication, etc, depletes vitamins and minerals from the body.

Since you are on a good roll, start taking a daily multi-vitamin/mineral. Though not the ones with he fake colors and other horrid ingredients, from the drug store. Get them from actual vitamin/ health food shop. Then we’ll talk about essential fatty acids, probiotics, enzymes, CoQ10, and garlic.

My information and statements are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. You should always consult with a qualified health care professional before starting any exercise, diet, or supplement program.

    Ridiculous, I know.

I am so excited for you.
Now lets see you on youtube doing an Irish jig.

  2. When it comes to diet, the only takeaways we get are from the local Indian, which specialises in non-additives. Apart from them (and they are only occasional), we cook all our own meals using locally grown vegetables, and meat from a local butcher who has his own farm. On the whole, our diet is pretty good.

I agree about all the crap that goes into food – even locally produced stuff, but I notice our vegetables tend to go off pretty quickly which is a very good sign? It also tastes so much better than the bland stuff from the supermarkets.

I think I’ll stick with my horse pills for the moment though, and see how that goes….

As for me on YouTube? Forget it! :)

  3. Sounds delicious!

Our locally grown vegetables and fruits come from Mexico, Chile, and Peru. And the meat, I’m not convinced this IS meat.
